The Coronado Historic Site offers a window into the ancient world of the Tiwa-speaking Pueblo people who built Kuaua Pueblo around 1300 CE. Located along the Rio Grande in Bernalillo, New Mexico, the site preserves the remnants of this once-thriving village, including a reconstructed square kiva that revealed some of the finest pre-contact mural art in North America. Visitors can explore the interpretive trail that winds through the ruins, descend into the kiva with a guide, and view original murals and artifacts in the visitor center designed by renowned architect John Gaw Meem.

The site is named after Spanish explorer Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, who camped near Kuaua Pueblo during his 1540 expedition. Today, the Coronado Historic Site serves as a place of learning and reflection, highlighting the resilience and creativity of the Pueblo peoples. With panoramic views of the Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande, it offers a serene and educational experience for history enthusiasts, families, and cultural travelers alike.
