How to Get There

From Kahului, HI (28 mi): Take HI-30 W through Lahaina and turn left onto Kāʻanapali Parkway; follow signs to beach access or resort parking.

Overview

Kāʻanapali is Maui’s original planned resort destination, centered on a mile-long beach on the island’s sunny west coast just north of Lahaina. Known for its golden sand, calm waters and beachfront resorts, it is one of the island’s most popular places to stay, with hotels, condominiums, shops, restaurants and golf all within a short walk of the shore.

Amfac, Inc. began developing Kāʻanapali Beach Resort in the 1960s, and the area has grown into a stretch of resorts and condominium complexes extending for several miles along the coast. The historic whaling town of Lahaina, just to the south, developed into the area’s shopping and dining hub.

Beachfront resorts include the Hyatt Regency Maui, Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, Royal Lahaina, Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel and the Westin Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Villas, along with the Honua Kai condominium resort and other condos. Whalers Village is the beachfront shopping center, and Black Rock at the north end of the beach is a popular snorkeling spot.
