The Congress Trail is a 2.7-mile paved loop that winds through the heart of Sequoia National Park’s Giant Forest, offering an intimate encounter with some of the largest and oldest trees on Earth. Beginning near the General Sherman Tree—the largest tree by volume—the trail leads visitors past iconic sequoias such as the President Tree, the Senate Group, and the House Group. Interpretive signs along the way provide insights into the ecology and history of these ancient giants, many of which are over 3,000 years old. The trail’s gentle elevation gain and smooth surface make it accessible for most hikers, including families and those using strollers.

Accessible year-round, the Congress Trail offers a different experience with each season. Spring brings blooming wildflowers and fewer crowds, while summer offers warm temperatures and full trail access. In fall, the crisp air and golden light create a serene atmosphere, and winter transforms the grove into a snowy wonderland. The trail is part of a larger network that includes the Sherman Tree Trail and connects to other scenic routes in the Giant Forest. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned explorer, the Congress Trail provides a peaceful and awe-inspiring journey through one of the world’s most majestic forests.
