Overview
Fisherman’s Wharf is San Francisco’s busy northern waterfront tourist district from Ghirardelli Square to Pier 39, named for the Italian fishermen who settled here during the Gold Rush and famous for Dungeness crab, sourdough bread bowls and clam chowder. Attractions include Pier 39’s sea lions, the Musée Mécanique, the Maritime National Historical Park, Alcatraz ferries, the cable car turnaround and the historic ships at Hyde Street Pier. It is very crowded in summer.
