The Florida State Capitol Complex in Tallahassee is really two buildings in one stop: the 22-story New Capitol tower, built in the 1970s to house the Florida Legislature and executive offices, and the Historic Capitol directly in front of it — a domed 1845 building that was slated for demolition until a citizen-led preservation campaign saved it. Restored to its 1902 appearance, the Historic Capitol now houses the Florida Historic Capitol Museum, exhibiting the state's political history under its elaborate stained-glass dome.
