The Bernheim Forest and Arboretum spans over 16,000 acres of protected land in the heart of Kentucky’s bourbon country. Founded in 1929 by Isaac W. Bernheim, the forest is a sanctuary for native flora and fauna and a hub for environmental education and outdoor recreation. Visitors can explore more than 40 miles of trails, from gentle walks to rugged hikes, and enjoy unique attractions like the Canopy Tree Walk, the whimsical Forest Giants sculptures, and the Playcosystem—a 17-acre natural playground. The forest also features themed gardens, including a sensory garden and an edible garden, designed to engage all ages and abilities.

Bernheim is more than a nature preserve—it’s a living classroom and a canvas for art and science. Seasonal events, guided hikes, and hands-on workshops offer opportunities to connect with nature in meaningful ways. The forest is also home to Isaac’s Café, which serves locally sourced meals, and a visitor center with exhibits and a gift shop. Whether you're seeking solitude, family adventure, or artistic inspiration, Bernheim offers a rich and restorative experience year-round. Its commitment to conservation and community makes it a treasured destination for both locals and travelers.
