How to Get There
From Mystic hotels (0.5 mi): Follow East Main Street or West Main Street toward downtown, continue along U.S. Route 1, and cross directly over the river at the signed drawbridge in the center of the village.
Overview
The Mystic River Bascule Bridge carries Main Street (US 1) into downtown Mystic. Built in 1920 to a Strauss heel-trunnion design by Thomas Ellis Brown, it opens about 2,200 times a year for boats, for around five minutes each time. Visitors gather to watch it lift.
