The Ulysses S. Grant Memorial at the foot of Capitol Hill, west of the Capitol beside the Capitol Reflecting Pool, honors the Civil War general and 18th president. Its central equestrian statue of Grant on his horse Cincinnati is the second-largest in the U.S. and the fifth-largest in the world, on a Vermont marble platform 252 feet long, flanked by an Artillery Group with a caisson and horses and a Cavalry Group charging into battle. Four lions guard the pedestal.
