The New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn Heights is in a decommissioned subway station, the Court Street station opened in 1936, and shows the history of the city's subway, bus, and commuter rail systems. The museum opened in 1976 for the Bicentennial with an admission of one subway token. Vintage subway cars line the platform level, and the mezzanine has memorabilia, signage, models, and dioramas of subway, bus, bridge, and tunnel history, plus lectures, tours, and family programs.
