Overview

Milwaukee is the largest city in Wisconsin, sitting on the shores of Lake Michigan at the meeting point of three rivers: the Menomonee, Kinnickinnic, and Milwaukee. Long shaped by German immigrants and their brewing traditions, the city has spent the last two decades reinventing itself with new stadiums, museums, and a revitalized riverfront.

Milwaukee's name comes from an Algonquian word meaning "good" or "pleasant land." German immigrants made the city synonymous with beer starting in the 1840s, and by 1981 Milwaukee had the greatest brewing capacity in the world. Only Miller remains among its historic breweries today, but a resurgence of craft breweries and brewpubs has kept the city's beer culture alive.

Downtown's Riverwalk links a wave of recent additions, including an expanded Milwaukee Art Museum and the Fiserv Forum arena, alongside revitalized neighborhoods such as the Historic Third Ward and Walker's Point. Each summer, Milwaukee hosts Summerfest, one of the largest music festivals in the world.

Milwaukee is home to the Milwaukee Bucks (NBA) and Milwaukee Brewers (MLB).
