Overview
Cottonwood Canyon Road (Road 400) is a scenic 47-mile dirt road through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument from US-89 (east of Kanab) to Kodachrome Basin State Park, passing the Cockscomb ridge and views of Grand Staircase, Grosvenor Arch, and Cottonwood Narrows. It was built as a maintenance road for power lines. In dry weather, it is a reasonably good dirt road for most vehicles, but it turns into impassable slick clay when wet, so check conditions at the visitor center.
