From Springdale (1 mi): Drive to the Zion National Park south entrance, park at the Visitor Center, and walk across the road following signs to the Watchman Trailhead near the Virgin River.

The Watchman Trail offers one of the most accessible yet rewarding hiking experiences in the park, beginning just steps from the visitor center and quickly ascending into open desert slopes. The route starts near the Virgin River before climbing steadily along sandy and rocky terrain, with a series of switchbacks leading to a plateau overlooking the canyon. Along the way, hikers are treated to ever-expanding views of surrounding formations, including the distinctive Watchman peak and the layered cliffs that define the lower canyon landscape.

At the top, a small loop trail leads to multiple vantage points perched above the valley, providing panoramic views of the river, nearby towns, and iconic sandstone towers. Despite its relatively short length, the trail delivers a strong sense of elevation and exposure, especially during sunrise or sunset when the cliffs glow with shifting colors. Its convenience, dramatic scenery, and moderate challenge make it a popular choice for visitors looking to experience the essence of the canyon without committing to a full-day hike.
