Overview

Upheaval Dome is a crater-like feature about 3 miles across in the Island in the Sky district, where the rock layers are pushed up in a circular structure, and geologists still debate whether it was made by a salt dome or a meteorite impact about 60 million years ago. Recent research supports the impact theory. It is a protected geologic mystery. Two short trails from the parking lot lead to overlooks.
