Overview

The Fiery Furnace is a labyrinth of narrow sandstone canyons, fins, and arches (Walk Through Arch, Crawl Through Arch, and others) near the center of Arches National Park, named for its glowing red color at sunset. There is no marked trail, and it is easy to get lost, so a permit system has been in place since 1994. You can go on a ranger-guided hike (reserve on Recreation.gov) or with a self-guided permit, and you must watch the desert crust.
