Overview
The D. H. Lawrence Ranch (Kiowa Ranch) in the mountains north of Taos was the New Mexico home of English novelist D. H. Lawrence for about two years in the 1920s, given to him and his wife Frieda by Mabel Dodge Luhan. After his death in France in 1930, his ashes were brought back and are kept in a small white memorial shrine that Frieda's husband Angelo Ravagli built. Frieda is buried here, and the University of New Mexico owns the ranch. The site is open in summer with a small fee, and offers hiking and views.
