Overview
Barr Trail is a 13-mile National Recreation Trail (1979) in Pike National Forest from Manitou Springs to the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak, and one of the most-used trails in Colorado. It is used for the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon races. A prospector first made the route in the mid-1800s, and Fred Barr rebuilt it in 1918-21 for burro trains, building Barr Camp (1922-24), and the Forest Service rebuilt it in 1948. Expect six to ten hours up, and plan to be off the summit early to avoid afternoon storms.
