Overview
The Richmond Canal Walk is a 1.25-mile downtown path along the restored Haxall Canal and the James River and Kanawha Canal, part of the waterfront's revival. Historical exhibits about the canals and the city line the way, and boat rides run along the canal. The James River and Kanawha Canal Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
Another canal landmark is Three Mile Lock and the 1901 Byrd Park Pumphouse in Pumphouse Park behind the Carillon, popular with dog walkers.
