From central Alexandria, head east on King Street toward the Potomac River to enter the heart of Old Town.
Overview
Old Town Alexandria is a walkable stretch of cobblestone streets and centuries-old row houses along the Potomac, once a colonial port frequented by George Washington. King Street runs through its heart, lined with more than 200 independent shops, antique dealers, and restaurants, and threading past landmarks like the Carlyle House and the Torpedo Factory Art Center. The free King Street Trolley makes it easy to cover the whole district from the Metro to the waterfront, and spring and fall are the most picturesque times to visit.
