The Battery is Charleston's iconic seawall and promenade, wrapping around the southern tip of the peninsula where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers meet to form the harbor. Built on the site of a Civil War-era coastal defense battery, it's now one of the city's best strolls, lined with grand antebellum mansions such as the Edmondston-Alston House and Louis DeSaussure House, with views across the water to Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie, Sullivan's Island, and the retired aircraft carrier USS Yorktown.
