Overview

The Pensacola Historic District (also called the Seville Historic District) is the heart of old downtown Pensacola, centered on Seville Square and its twin green, Plaza Ferdinand VII. The area has been settled since 1559, making it one of the earliest European footholds in North America, and its main draw for visitors is Historic Pensacola Village — a walkable cluster of restored 18th- and 19th-century homes and museums run by the University of West Florida's Historic Trust. Parking is available behind the Pensacola Museum of History, housed in the former city hall.

Highlights of the complex include:

  • Pensacola Museum of History at the University of West Florida (Formerly the T.T. Wentworth Jr. Florida State Museum)
  • Bowden Building (classrooms and administrative offices)
  • Museum of Commerce
  • Museum of Industry
  • Historic Pensacola's Tivoli High House (ticket and information center)
  • Weaver's Cottage
  • Julee Cottage
  • Lavalle House
  • Lear-Rocheblave House
  • Old Christ Church
  • Dorr House (used by UWF's President as a residence)
  • Pensacola Children's Museum - hands-on exploration of Pensacola's colonial history on the first floor, local history exhibits for adults and children on the second floor
