Overview

The Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour in McDade Park takes you 300 feet underground into a real anthracite mine, riding down the original Slope #190 and walking gangways once used by miners. Guides, often former miners and historians, explain the tools, techniques, and dangers of deep mining and the stories of immigrant laborers. It is cool underground year-round, and pairs with the Anthracite Heritage Museum.
