Overview
The Colorado State Capitol in Denver, home of the General Assembly and the governor's offices, was designed by Elijah E. Myers to recall the U.S. Capitol and built in the 1890s of Colorado white granite. The dome is covered in gold leaf, and the 13th step on the west side is exactly one mile above sea level, marked with a brass plaque. Free tours show the stained-glass windows, Colorado Rose Onyx marble, and portraits of presidents, and you can climb to the dome's observation deck.
