How to Get There
Overview
Avalon is the only incorporated city on Santa Catalina Island, 22 miles off the Los Angeles coast, a charming harbor resort town that welcomes about a million visitors a year, and is reached by ferries from Long Beach, San Pedro, Newport Beach and Dana Point. William Wrigley Jr. developed it after 1919, including the landmark Catalina Casino, an Art Deco ballroom and theater. Visitors get around on foot and in golf carts. Attractions include the Casino tour, Descanso Beach, Lovers Cove, glass-bottom boat and zip line tours, and island tours to see bison.
