Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historic State Park preserves the landscape of one of the most decisive battles of the American Civil War. On April 6, 1865, Union forces struck the retreating Army of Northern Virginia at Sailor's Creek, capturing thousands of Confederate soldiers and several generals in a crushing defeat that effectively sealed the fate of General Robert E.
