From Harrisonburg (20 mi): Take I-81 N to Exit 264, follow US-211 E toward New Market, then continue to George Collins Parkway and the battlefield entrance at 57 George Collins Pkwy.

Overview

New Market Battlefield State Historical Park preserves one of the Shenandoah Valley's best-known Civil War battlefields. On May 15, 1864, Confederate forces under General John C. Breckinridge fought Union troops, and cadets from the Virginia Military Institute took part, giving the battle its fame. The farmland is little changed and looks out over the valley.
