From Charlottesville, VA (6 mi): Take VA-20 S/Monticello Ave for approximately 6 miles, then turn right onto James Monroe Parkway to reach the entrance.

James Monroe's Highland near Charlottesville was the estate of the fifth president, author of the Monroe Doctrine and negotiator of the Louisiana Purchase. The site has a reconstructed guest house, the archaeological remains of Monroe's original home, and exhibits on his political career and life, with Blue Ridge views, gardens, and walking trails.
