How to Get There

From Washington, Georgia (12 mi): Take GA-44 south from Washington, continue toward the Kettle Creek area, then follow War Hill Road and battlefield signs to the historic site entrance.

Overview

Kettle Creek Battlefield preserves the site of a Revolutionary War engagement fought on February 14, 1779, in the Georgia backcountry, where Patriot militia surprised and defeated a Loyalist force trying to strengthen British control of the region. Smaller than many famous battles, the victory disrupted British plans in Georgia and encouraged Patriot resistance across the South.

Monuments, commemorative markers, and interpretive displays explain the battle within the Southern Campaign, and trails wind through the wooded terrain and open fields of the rural Georgia setting.
