Overview
Epcot is Walt Disney World's second theme park, opened in 1982, and combines technology and science pavilions with a permanent world's fair, the World Showcase. The original EPCOT concept was Walt Disney's plan for an experimental planned community; after his death in 1966 the company shifted to a park showcasing innovation and world cultures. Spaceship Earth, a giant geodesic sphere, is its icon.
Park Areas
- Future World: the main entrance area with Spaceship Earth and pavilions for science and technology, including Test Track, Mission: Space, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, and The Land (Soarin' Around the World and Living with the Land boat ride). Note that the area's pavilions have been reorganized and renamed in recent years.
- World Showcase: 11 country pavilions circling a 1.2-mile lagoon, with themed architecture, shops, restaurants, and cultural staff from each country
World Showcase Pavilions
Canada, United Kingdom, France, Morocco, Japan, United States, Italy, Germany, China, Norway, and Mexico (Morocco and Norway were added in 1984 and 1988).
World Showcase opens later than the rest of the park and stays open later. A second entrance, the International Gateway between France and the United Kingdom, connects to the Disney Skyliner and nearby resorts.
