Overview
Wynwood Walls is the centerpiece of Miami's Wynwood Arts District, one of the largest outdoor street art installations in the world. What was once a rundown warehouse district is now covered floor to ceiling in murals from artists around the globe, packed into a compact, walkable grid alongside dozens of galleries, studios, and food stops.
History
Developer Tony Goldman began buying up buildings in Wynwood in 2004 and, in 2009, launched the Wynwood Walls project to bring international street artists to the neighborhood's blank walls. The murals drew coverage from the New York Times and BBC and turned Wynwood into one of the most Instagrammed spots in the country. The project has since expanded with "Outside the Walls" murals covering entire building facades and the Wynwood Doors, which showcase smaller and emerging artists.
Visiting
On the second Saturday of every month, the neighborhood hosts a community-wide art walk, with galleries and studios opening their doors for art, music, and refreshments. The district now packs in more than 400 businesses and roughly 30 food stops across 50 blocks.
