Overview
Downtown Bentonville is the historic business district of Bentonville, Arkansas, centered on the Bentonville Square and home to city and county government along with most of the city's tourist attractions. Since the nearby Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art opened, increased tourist traffic has made Downtown Bentonville one of the state's most popular destinations.
Developed by Alice Walton and the Walton Family Foundation, the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art displays more than 450 works spanning five centuries of American art. A network of six trails connects the museum to the Bentonville Square, doubling as an outdoor showcase of native Ozark plant life and public art.
The square itself is anchored by the Classical Revival Benton County Courthouse, built in 1928, and the Walmart Visitor's Center, surrounded by historic storefronts such as the 1880s Bogart Hardware and Roy's Office Supply buildings, the 1910 Hotel Massey, and the Terry Block Building, now a retro soda fountain and ice cream parlor. Many of these buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
