Overview

The Chief Shakes Historic Site on Shakes Island in Wrangell Harbor has the Chief Shakes Tribal House, a recreated clan house with carved house posts and totem poles. A footbridge from the town leads to it, and the site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. Tours are given by tribal members when cruise ships are in town.
