Overview

Quincy Market, built in 1824-26 behind Faneuil Hall and named for Mayor Josiah Quincy, is a National Historic Landmark and the food hall of Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Alexander Parris designed the 535-foot granite building, an early large-scale use of granite and glass in post-and-beam construction, with a copper dome in the middle. Today, the long hall is lined with food stalls, and street performers work the plaza outside. The flanking North and South Market buildings have shops and restaurants.
