How to Get There

From Arlington, VA (5 mi): Take I-395 or US-50 into Washington, DC, continue toward the National Mall, and proceed to Constitution Avenue NW and 13th Street NW where the museum is located.

Overview

The National Museum of American History, opened in 1964 on the National Mall, holds more than three million objects on the events, innovations, and people that shaped the U.S. Its most celebrated treasure is the original Star-Spangled Banner, and it has artifacts tied to Lincoln, Jefferson, and presidential history, plus galleries on transportation, business, military history, music, sports, entertainment, science, and social movements. Admission is free.
