From Downtown Pittsburgh (1 mi): Take Liberty Avenue or Penn Avenue northeast from downtown, continue along the Allegheny River corridor, and enter the Strip District near Smallman Street and 16th Street.

The Strip District is a long, narrow neighborhood between downtown and the Allegheny River, once full of warehouses and produce terminals and now Pittsburgh's food and market district. Specialty grocers, Italian imports, fish markets, bakeries, coffee roasters, breweries, and distilleries line its blocks, and on weekends the sidewalks fill with shoppers and street vendors. The Senator John Heinz History Center is here.
