Overview
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens on South Street is a folk-art environment and gallery covering three city lots, the largest work of mosaic artist Isaiah Zagar. Its indoor galleries and outdoor labyrinth are covered in tile, bicycle wheels, bottles, and found objects. Zagar and his wife Julia moved to South Street in 1968 when the area was slated for demolition for a highway, and Zagar began the garden after buying the building in 1994. It offers tours, exhibitions, and mosaic workshops.
