Overview

Christ Church Burial Ground at 5th and Arch streets, started in 1719, is the final resting place of Benjamin Franklin and his wife Deborah, and of four other signers of the Declaration of Independence (Benjamin Rush, Francis Hopkinson, Joseph Hewes, and George Ross). It is still an active cemetery, open to the public for a small fee, with about 100,000 visitors a year. Franklin's grave can be seen from the sidewalk at 5th and Arch when it is closed. The church, founded in 1695, is a few blocks away.
