From Rome (6 mi): Take NY-69 east from Rome toward Oriskany, continue along State Route 69, and follow signs to the battlefield entrance at 7801 State Route 69.

Overview

Oriskany Battlefield State Historic Site preserves the ground of the August 6, 1777 battle, one of the bloodiest of the Revolution, where patriot militia and Oneida warriors marching to relieve besieged Fort Stanwix were ambushed in a ravine near Oriskany Creek. Fierce hand-to-hand fighting and heavy losses on both sides followed. Interpretive exhibits, memorials, trails, and a monument dedicated in 1884 mark the site, which highlights the role of the Oneida Nation.
