Overview
Times Square at Broadway and Seventh Avenue, from West 42nd to 47th streets, is Midtown's dazzling crossroads of neon and LED billboards, theaters, and crowds, and the site of the New Year's Eve ball drop, held since December 31, 1907. It was Longacre Square until renamed in 1904 when The New York Times moved to One Times Square. It is shaped like a bowtie, with the northern triangle officially Duffy Square, where the TKTS booth's red steps sit.
