The Staten Island Ferry is a free 5.2-mile, roughly 25-minute ride between Whitehall Terminal at South Ferry in Lower Manhattan and St. George Terminal on Staten Island, run by the city's Department of Transportation. It is the busiest ferry route in the U.S., with 23.9 million riders in fiscal 2016, and a favorite free sightseeing trip, with views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Governors Island, the Lower Manhattan skyline, and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
