Overview

Nathan's Famous began in 1916 as a nickel hot dog stand at Surf and Stillwell avenues in Coney Island, founded by Nathan and Ida Handwerker, and the original stand still operates at that site, with a second location on the boardwalk. The annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is held there on July 4th, with contestants eating as many hot dogs as possible in 10 minutes; past champions include Takeru Kobayashi, Joey Chestnut, and Miki Sudo.
