Overview

Mount Defiance rises steeply above Fort Ticonderoga, and in 1777 British forces put artillery on this high ground, exposing the fort's vulnerability and forcing the Americans to withdraw. Today a drive or a challenging hike leads to the summit for views over Lake Champlain and neighboring ranges, with picnic tables and short footpaths near the top.
