Overview

The Schifferstadt Architectural Museum is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Frederick and a rare example of German colonial architecture in the U.S., built in 1758 by the Brunner family from the Palatinate, with thick sandstone walls, a central chimney, and a vaulted root cellar. It is a National Historic Landmark run by the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, open seasonally for guided tours with period furnishings and a heritage garden.
