How to Get There

From Ocean City, MD (1 mi): Cross the Delaware state line on DE-1 N (Ocean Hwy) approximately 1 mile north to the Fenwick Island Lighthouse at 146 Ocean Hwy, Fenwick Island.

Overview

Fenwick Island Lighthouse, on the Delaware and Maryland state line, was completed in 1858 (first lit in 1859) and is Delaware's oldest lighthouse. It was decommissioned in 1978, relit in 1982 after a community campaign, and restored in 1997. It is on the National Register of Historic Places (1979).

The state of Delaware owns it and a nonprofit, the New Friends of the Fenwick Island Lighthouse, maintains it. You can visit the base, which has a small museum and gift shop, but the tower is not open for climbing.
