Overview

Bumpass Hell is Lassen Volcanic National Park’s largest hydrothermal area, with boiling springs, steaming fumaroles and bubbling mud pots, on a 3-mile round-trip trail open in summer and fall only. It starts at a parking area that is often full by mid-morning, with only vault toilets at the trailhead, and no pets are allowed. Stay on boardwalks and trails, since the ground is scalding.
