Overview
Mission San Juan Bautista, founded June 24, 1797, was the fifteenth California mission and the town’s namesake, and is a state historic park still holding daily Mass. The largest mission church in California, it faces a wide grassy plaza with the Castro-Breen Adobe, Plaza Hotel and Zanetta House, and it is where Hitchcock filmed Vertigo. The San Andreas Fault runs just below the mission.
