Overview
The Sedona Airport Scenic Lookout is one of the most celebrated viewpoints in northern Arizona, drawing visitors with its commanding vistas across a landscape of towering sandstone buttes, mesas, and canyons. Perched atop Airport Mesa, the overlook provides an unobstructed perspective of many of the region’s iconic formations, including Thunder Mountain, Coffee Pot Rock, and Chimney Rock. Sunrise and sunset are especially popular times to visit, when shifting light transforms the red cliffs into brilliant shades of orange, crimson, and gold.
Beyond its reputation as a photography destination, the overlook also serves as a gateway to several nearby hiking opportunities, including the Airport Loop Trail and Sedona View Trail. The area is closely associated with the natural beauty that has made Sedona an international destination for outdoor recreation, geology, and scenic tourism. Whether stopping for a few minutes or spending an evening watching the changing colors of the surrounding landscape, visitors experience one of the most memorable panoramic viewpoints in the American Southwest.
