Overview
The Heard Museum in Phoenix is one of the world’s leading museums of American Indian art, telling the stories of Native peoples from a first-person perspective through traditional and contemporary art, especially from the Southwest. Founded in 1929 by Dwight and Maie Bartlett Heard to house their private collection, it has grown into an internationally recognized institution with more than 40,000 items, a 34,000-volume library and archive, and over 130,000 square feet of gallery, classroom and performance space. It also hosts well-known festivals and educational programs.
