Overview
The Firehole River flows through Yellowstone's main geyser basins, including the Upper Geyser Basin with Old Faithful, and was named by early trappers for the steam that makes it look like it is smoking. It has three waterfalls: Kepler Cascades (south of Old Faithful), Firehole Falls, and the Cascades of the Firehole in Firehole Canyon, and the Firehole Canyon Drive is a scenic side road. A swimming area in the canyon opens in summer.
