Overview
The Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody is a five-museum complex under one roof, started in 1917 as the Buffalo Bill Memorial Association after William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody's death. It is a Smithsonian Affiliate (the first in Wyoming, since 2008), and one of the best Western museums in the country. Give it a full day, since admission is valid for two consecutive days.

The Harold McCracken Research Library holds 30,000 books, more than 400 manuscript collections, and half a million photographs.
