Overview

The Town Hall Square Historic District is the historic center of Sandwich, the oldest town on Cape Cod (founded 1637), around Sandwich Town Hall, Shawme Pond, and the reconstructed Dexter Grist Mill. It was listed on the National Register in 1975 and expanded in 2010. Glassmaking brought prosperity from 1825, and the district holds 17th-century First Period houses, Queen Anne and Shingle-style homes, and a burying ground with graves dating to 1663.
